PRIMITIVITY is a rock cello quartet from Washington DC that blends elements of classical, post-rock, and hard rock music. Consisting of cellists Devree Lewis, Natalie Spehar, and percussionist Robby Burns, all from the University Of Maryland School of Music, the band is directed by 2010 Strathmore Artist in Residence and cellist Loren Westbrook-Fritts. Playing the music of Led Zepplin, The Beatles, Muse, Megadeth, Apocalyptica, and Metallica, Primitivity also premiers their own original works. The band’s debut album, “Plays Megadeth For Cello,” has received critical acclaim from fans and praise from Megadeth’s frontman, Dave Mustaine. Primitivity blends refined classical approaches and the new sounds of rock into a unique concert program that redefines the cello for the 21st century.
